FAQs
Q: How many divisions are there going to be in your league?
A: We don't know for certain until closer to the end of our registration date. After working with our Captain's, we've determined the best strategy is to start with broader division sizes to maximize the ability for teams to be able to play against a higher variety of teams, and then gradually work our way down to smaller division sizes going into the final stretch of the season to maximize parity and the number of league champions!Â
Q: How did you calculate the "expected number of games"?
A: We can never guarantee an exact number of playoff games, but in our calculation use internal data based on the percentage of series that typically go go 3-games and then apply that logic to each series in a hypothetical format.Â
Q: How does the scheduling work? Do we get our schedule for the entire season up front?
A: No, we typically have 3-4 realignment windows to best maximize parity in our league. Typically, the initial schedule comes out until late-October (followed by a realignment), another series of games until New Years (followed by a realignment), then until mid-February (followed by a realignment), and then until the end of the regular season. This gives us the best balance between ensuring we can do our best.
Q: Why the change to registration options including different packages with even less games?
A: There were multiple factors at play behind this decision. First, significant increases in operating costs across the industry made us want to ensure we keep various registration packages open for teams with different preferences, including new options that address teams that care most about the lowest overall price (with an option now $450 less than any 2022/23 package) and an option maintaining the best possible "bang for buck" given the industry-wide changes. Our hope is that there's a package that is right for each team based uniquely on their needs. Â
Q: Why do most teams average more total games with the best-of-3 playoff format? I don't understand.Â
A: Our league's best-of-3 playoff format provides an average of over 4 games per playoff team, ensuring better value and a lower average cost per minute. You could even play six playoff games, all included in your original registration and at no additional costs. In other leagues across Canada, other playoff formats typically result in fewer games for each team.
Q: What do you mean by 24 guaranteed games (includes 2-6 playoff games)?
A: This means you’d receive at minimum 24 games. 22 games would be via the regular season, and then you’d finish with anywhere between 24-28 games played total (playoffs are included in your fees) depending on placement in division and playoffs. Â
