Q: How many divisions will there be this season?
A: We don’t finalize divisions until registration is nearly complete. After working with captains, we've found the best approach is to start with larger, more flexible divisions. This gives teams a wider variety of opponents early on, and then we gradually narrow divisions as the season progresses to maximize parity and create more meaningful, competitive playoff races.
Q: Do we get our full schedule upfront?
A: No. WRHL uses 3–4 realignment windows throughout the season to ensure competitive balance. Typically, you’ll get:
An initial schedule through mid-late October
A second block through the Christmas holidays
A third set through mid-February
Final games through the end of the regular season
This model gives us the flexibility to adjust based on team performance and create the most balanced schedule possible.
Q: Why do teams usually play more games in your best-of-3 playoff format?
A: Our best-of-3 format averages over 4 playoff games per team—some teams even play up to 9 playoff games—all included in your registration fee. That’s more hockey, more value, and a lower cost per minute than double-elimination formats used by other leagues.
Q: What does “26 guaranteed games (including 2–9 playoff games)” mean?
A: Every team with a standard registration is guaranteed at least 26 games—24 in the regular season, plus 2–9 playoff games depending on where your team finishes and how deep you go. Playoffs are fully included in your fees, no hidden costs.
Q: You used to offer different game package options—what changed?
A: We still offer flexible formats, but we’ve shifted from game-count-based registration to location-based registration. This allows us to better customize schedules based on where teams want to play, while still maintaining flexibility in total games and format. You can still contact us and we can adjust your game total up or down. Please note, if you go down in number of games, it is still your responsibility to ensure enough of your players qualify for playoffs.
Q: What happened to the scheduling perks?
A: They’re still available, but we now wait until our ice contracts are finalized before locking them in. Captains told us they prefer a “underpromise and overdeliver” approach—so we'll confirm perks closer to the start of the season when we know exactly what we can offer.
